US family rescue eagle hit by car and then bird is named after boy in heroic tale
A family heading to Denver, Colorado, managed to rescue a bald eagle that was hit by a car in front of them on March 1.
Tamara Jeanne filmed as they carefully picked up the injured bird of prey and transported it to a rehabilitation centre in Broomfield after informing the Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Footage shows the eagle being treated for its wounds. In a heartwarming twist, staff at the centre decided to name the bird after Jeanne's son, Jamos. His is seen pictured with the eagle.
The mother told Newsflare: "We were headed to Denver to celebrate Jamos’ birthday a little early with some fun in the city. We were just a few miles from home when the car in front of us hit a bald eagle that was trying to feast on the remains of a rabbit. The beautiful bird sat stunned and drooping in the middle of the highway.
"We stopped and Chad stripped off his coat and wrapped him up as we called CPW to let them know. With a borrowed kennel from the animal shelter, we got permission to take it to the Birds of Prey rehabilitation centre in Broomfield since we were heading that way.
"They had a team ready for him when we arrived a couple of hours later and after his exam and wound care, we were so relieved to hear that he had an excellent chance of recovery.
"We got to watch them weigh him, take blood for lead levels, get some antibiotics, clean his beak wounds and eat a little food so he had a little something in his belly with the meds.
"He’ll be recovering for a few weeks and they told us that when he was releasable, they’d love to come do it at the ranch since it’s the same river valley where hopefully he’ll reconnect with his mate (they mate for life. She was circling overhead."
