Iranians rally for Palestinians, condemn Israel on Jerusalem Day
This footage was filmed and produced 5 April 2024.
Storyline:
Five days after Israel targeted and killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) inside Iran's consulate building in Syria, Iranians in the capital Tehran held a rally Friday on the occasion of Quds, or Jerusalem Day, to condemn Israel's violent act and its military operations in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstrators took part in a funeral procession for the seven Iranian officers killed in the Israeli attack, carrying pictures of the slain and banners with slogans against Israel and the United States.
The Iranian people said that Israel's attack on an Iranian diplomatic complex blatantly violates international law and is an aggression against the national sovereignty of Iran and Syria. They said Iran should launch strategic retaliation against Israel.
"I don't think Iran should retaliate hastily. It should choose the right time and target the right place for revenge. It's clear that Israel brings insecurity to the Middle East whether it's in Gaza or the occupation of the Golan Heights and Palestinian territories," said a local resident.
Iranians condemned Israel's assault in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians in six months and urged the U.S. government to face up to the root causes of the regional crisis, stop supporting Israel's act of war and stop interfering in regional affairs.
"What has the United States committed in the Middle East? This land belongs to its people so the people in this region should make decisions on regional affairs. Why has America, from the other side of the world, come here and stayed for so many years? Because it serves its own political interests and it came here to dominate and bully," said another resident.
The protesters then headed for the University of Tehran where IRGC commander General Hossein Salami gave his speech before the weekly Friday prayers.
Salami condemned the United States for supporting Israel's crimes politically, financially and logistically, adding that Israel's malicious moves in the region were indicative of its miscalculations of the Muslim world.
The IRGC chief commander cautioned that Israel would face consequences for its conspiracies in the region, emphasizing that Israel must realize that by creating insecurity, it cannot guarantee its own safety.
In response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate, he said Iran would not leave any hostile actions unanswered, noting that "our brave men will punish Israel."
The International Quds Day was commemorated in cities across Iran as well as many other Muslim countries on Friday. The Quds Day, or Jerusalem Day, is an annual pro-Palestinian ceremony held on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan - expressing support for Palestinians and opposing Israel and Zionism.
