The ongoing 135th China Import and Export Fair is giving more prominence to "new quality productive forces," with a growing number of Chinese manufactures showing how advanced technologies have help them boost their productivity.

Also known as the Canton Fair, the biannual event held in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, is considered a major gauge of China's foreign trade.

This time the fair has seen the participation of over Chinese 5,000 exhibitors who are certified as "national high-tech enterprises," leaders in a specific manufacturing sector or named as "little giants" (enterprises that use special and sophisticated technologies to produce novel and unique products), which is 20 percent higher than that of the previous session.

Among them is a "little giant" company specializing in robotic laser welding which has invested in the research and development of optical, mechanical and software technology and greatly enhanced the traditional manual welding process in terms of efficiency and quality. It received tentative orders worth nearly five billion yuan (about 700,000 U.S. dollars) on the opening day of the Canton Fair.

"The application of laser welding has increased our efficiency by five to 10 times and the finished piece is very beautiful, smooth and fine, which avoids some complicated processes such as grinding," said Peng Xuezhou, the exhibitor.

Another electrical appliance company has revolutionized its production line with the help of 5G technology and the Industrial Internet, which shortens the order-to-delivery cycle from three months to just 11 days for TV products, significantly reducing the costs. The cost for a 75-inch TV has dropped by 30 percent.

More and more manufactures attending the Canton Fair are betting on "new quality productive forces" to upgrade their products, advance industrial transformation and pursue high-end, intelligent and green development. They have also tried to make good use of market feedback to further improve their products and industrial chains.

The 135th Canton Fair runs from April 15 to May 5, featuring an exhibition area of 1.55 million square meters and over 29,000 exhibitors from across the globe.
