Davide Quadrio, an artist who had lived in China for 30 years, has committed to making the Asian Art Museum in the northern Italian city of Turin a bridge linking the cultures of China and Italy after he begins his tenure as director in 2021.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): DAVIDE QUADRIO, Director, Asian Art Museum in Turin, Italy
"My name is David Quadrio, in China known as 'Le Dadou'. I've been living in China actually for 30 years. I've been working most of my life in contemporary art, especially in China.
The (Asian art) museum has an extraordinary collection of Chinese antiques. China has been very much involved in the programming of the museum."

From April to September this year, the museum is holding a special exhibition named "Translation and Tradition of Eurasia" to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): DAVIDE QUADRIO, Director, Asian Art Museum in Turin, Italy
"Throughout the year, you know, we've been really working on this idea of translations and of traditions which are actually what the silk roads are.
So the exhibition that we have this year is a platform that we've been really working on continuously. It's something that talks about Marco Polo in a very direct way.
This museum is a gateway. It is not about only the locality, but is really an interesting occasion to create a double understanding, but also to create, to channel, positive energies in culture exchange.
The official collaborations (with China) are something that I'm now really seeking. We are signing our contract of collaboration with a government that is a sister city of Turin, Guangzhou (in China).
So that is something that I would like to enhance also with China.
I really would like to also explore that and to see how we can enhance collaborations especially with Chengdu and Shanghai and Beijing.
So all these kinds of gestures of exchange I think would be necessary to create stable long-term connections between the two countries."
