China increases investment in cold chain logistics infrastructure

China is increasing its investments into cold chain logistics as shipping demand for fresh produce and perishable goods is picking up.

On this day, more than 200 tons of frozen chicken are about to shipped out.

To ensure the quality and integrity of the products during the trip, the train uses plug-in refrigerated containers that support manual temperature control throughout the entire journey.

Li Haiping, deputy director of operations department, China-Europe Freight Train (Shenyang) Assembly Center:

"Since this year, we have continued to increase investment in related equipment and facilities based on market developments and customers' transportation needs. We have also continued to launch new products for China-Europe freight train services."

Meanwhile, China is also ramping up investment in cold storage facilities.

Data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing showed that in the first quarter of 2024, investment into cold chain warehouses topped roughly two billion U.S. dollars, up 22 percent year on year.
