A woman has spoken of how she has been left frightened and anxious after finding a stranger had been lurking around her doorstep in the middle of the night.

Stephanie Double, 60, said she was left feeling "unsafe" after checking her doorbell camera footage and seeing the hooded trespasser on her front porch at 3am. "

The man in the video is wearing a striped hoodie and is seen shining a torch at the house, but quickly retreats when he notices the camera on May 19.

Stephanie, who lives at the property with her husband Mark, said: "It made me feel unsafe, and anxious. "

"I've been checking my locked door several times a day and before I go to bed even when I know it's locked. "

"It destroys your peace of mind and security when someone uninvited is on your property."

Stephanie, who lives in Lakenham, Norfolk, said there are six foot double gates at the front of her garden and a 25 foot long path that runs alongside the house.

She said it "constitutes as quite a commitment to decide to come in" considering her garden is full of trees and shrubs make it impossible to see anything until you reach the front door at night."

The retired teaching assistant added that an elderly neighbour who lives across the road was still awake at 3.17am and had noticed a man "poking about"."

Stephanie shared the footage on social media and was told the man in the video had visited other properties in the area on the same night.

She said: "I've decided to get another camera. I've lived in this house for nearly 30 years and there have been so many of these situations."

"My neighbour was broken into twice, my other neighbour was recently burgled while she was in the house."

"We have had two cars stolen from here years ago before I had parking in the garden and one broken into out the front in the garden. "

"It makes it hard to sleep as you find yourself constantly checking to see if everything is ok. "

"In those instances, the police were unable to find or charge anyone for any incident. "

"When I first came here it was a regular occurrence to see pairs of police constables walking the streets around here and even fairly recently, community police. I'm sure they act as a deterrent."

Norwich Police confirmed that a report had been filed and the doorbell footage is being kept on record.
