A boat full of fishermen found the ‘world’s smallest island’ measuring 2x2 metres floating seven miles offshore.

When Ari Martia Affandi set off from the harbour at Meulaboh, Indonesia, on May 14 he thought it would be a normal day.

In footage which has been viewed more than 4.4million times the 34-year-old captured the boat pulling alongside the grassy square in the wide open Indian Ocean.

The whole crew can be heard laughing as they float past the tiny patch of land with nothing else in sight.

Ari said: “I was just wondering if we were going to find any fish that day when this square of land suddenly appeared.

“It must only have been about 2x2 metres. There was only enough space for one little lizard on there.

“We had set off from Meulaboh and must have been at least seven miles offshore when we found it. There was nothing else in sight on the surface.”
