A man’s unique hack for cutting avocado to avoid it browning has gone viral leaving viewers split.

Michael Broomberg, from Cape Town, South Africa, gained unexpected notoriety after sharing the tip where he starts by cutting off the top of the fruit.

Fascinating footage – viewed more than 7.5million times – hears Michael explain that he does not cut vertically down the avocado exposing its seed inside.

As he explained this reduces the surface area exposed to air, he then dipped his knife into the top of the avocado like taking butter from a tub before spreading it on his bread.

Michael said: “I’ve been cutting avocados like this ever since I can remember. It just seemed logical at the time.

“I couldn’t believe when it blew up. My 15-year-old daughter said ‘papa, your video went viral’! I had no idea.

“I was making a dinner salad and my friend asked why I was cutting the avocado like that.

“I told her because I’ve always cut it like that and she suggested making a video and posting it just for laughs. The rest is history.

“A lot of them are from people who are completely perplexed as to why not eat the whole thing.

“I felt the need to explain in another video that it’s just a quick snack and not the main event.”
