STORYLINE:

Wu Chia-ying, executive vice president of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland, has witnessed the increasing integrated development across the Taiwan Strait over the past decades.

Wu came to the eastern Chinese coastal city of Xiamen and started his business in 1997. 

Benefiting from supportive policies and a favorable business environment, his business has been expanded from trade into manufacturing, services, food and some high-tech industries.

"When we first started business in the mainland, our Taiwan-funded enterprises benefited a lot from the preferential policies, especially tax relief, preferential policies on land use costs, and some incentive policies on foreign exchange.
I am a participant and contributor to the economic development of the Chinese mainland as well as a beneficiary of the economic development dividend of the Chinese mainland. For Taiwanese businessmen and enterprises, we can see that the mainland market is so huge. Especially, the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative has created vast business opportunities. Our Taiwanese businessmen can seek shared development with mainland enterprises and state-owned companies. This is very important and the business opportunities are infinite."
