A woman fought off dozens of crazed stray dogs that attacked her as she passed by a car park in India.

The resident was out for a morning walk near her apartment when the pack of eight canines blocked her path in Manikonda, Telangana, on June 22 at 6 am.

She was cornered by the dogs as more joined in. They began barking at her while she tried to scare them with away her purse.

CCTV footage shows the resident trying to drive the dogs away by waving her wallet at them. She continued waving her purse at them so they wouldn't bite her.

She stumbled and fell on her back but quickly stood up before retreating to the back of a motorcycle rider who saw and helped her.

A car driver also stopped to scare the dogs away, and the pack of strays scattered. The woman was assisted in returning to her home and was not seriously hurt.

The woman's husband told local media: ‘Please do not feed stray dogs inside our community so they don't stick around. My wife could have died. It would have been more dangerous if they attacked children.'

Concerned residents urged the authorities to help control stray animals and take them to rescue shelters.

India is estimated to have tens of millions of stray dogs roaming its streets. Despite efforts, sterilization and vaccination programs have struggled to keep pace with the growing population.
