STORYLINE:

In Zixing City, China's Hunan Province, the Dongjiang Lake big data center hosts over 36,000 servers from the country's top information platforms.

To maintain optimal temperatures and prevent malfunctions, the servers are cooled using cold water from Dongjiang Lake, located a few kilometers away.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LEI JIANJUN, Chairman of Hunan Cloudnest Information Technology Co., Ltd.
"After pumping up the lake water, we use plate heat exchangers and pipelines to bring the cold air carried by the pumped cold water to cool our equipment, keeping the temperature in the data center at around 26 degrees Celsius."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIU MOPING, Deputy director of the local environmental protection bureau
"After cooling the servers, the temperature of the water re-entering the river only rises by about 2-3 degrees Celsius, with virtually no pollution to the water quality. If the 200,000 server racks in the park are constructed and running in full load, the cooling method could save 2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by 640,000 tonnes and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 2 million tonnes."

In addition, the Dongjiang Lake big data center also extensively employs green energy such as hydroelectric, wind, and photovoltaic power to sustain its operations.
