Former Manchester United player Charlie Scott who lined up alongside Marcus Rashford years ago has signed for Indonesian club Semen Padang FC.

Scott's arrival immediately caused a stir among football fans in the country. The reason is that Scott is a player who graduated from the Manchester United academy and was once a teammate of Marcus Rashford between 2014 and 2018.

Footage shows the English midfielder taking part in a training session before posing for pictures with fans who have given him the nickname Kabau Sirah, meaning red buffalo.

He spoke about his move to Indonesia: "I don't know too much about the league. Last day I played in Hong Kong, so this league will be new to me. So I try to study as much as possible online. But I'm looking forward to the test and the atmosphere.

"Because I know here there's many funds and the stadiums are a lot bigger than Hong Kong and what I previously played was similar to Europe, so I'm looking forward to it and I can't wait to get going.

"Now I just tried to build my fitness up and get used to my teammates. Because also a long time I didn't play football, like five, six weeks. So step by step. I just tried to build my fitness and my stamina and get ready for the legal one season. Yeah, so I want to firstly thank someone for giving me the opportunity to come to Indonesia.

"I want to come here and try to. I don't know how the young players are. I think we have a young team compared to other teams in the league. So I want to pass on also my experience, but at the same time, I'm still only 26. So I want to learn as much as possible.

"Yeah, I've been here now for almost one week, and Padang looks like a very nice area with friendly people. So I think I will try to get settled as soon as possible here with my wife. So yeah, firstly, I just want to thank Padang for giving me that opportunity to come to Indonesia."

After leaving Manchester United, Scott went on to play for lower league side Altrincham before moving abroad to play for Happy Valley and Kitchee in Hong Kong.

The proud football club of West Sumatra, Padang FC, has officially brought in a foreign player from England, Charlie Scott, to play in the 2024/2025 League 1 season. The former Manchester United player was introduced on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

He played for Manchester United in the U-18 and U-23 teams from 2014 to 2018. In order to get lots of playing minutes in the senior team, Scott was loaned by Manchester United to the Scottish club, Hamilton Academical FC, in the 2017/2018 season transfer window.

Even though at the end of the season Scott was returned to Old Trafford, unfortunately he didn't find a place until he was finally released by Manchester United. 

Until finally, in the 2018/2019 season, he was finally recruited by Altrincham and then by Newcastle Town. After spending a long time in Europe, Scott finally decided to expand his career outside England, where in the 2020/2021 season he moved to Hong Kong and joined the Happy Valley club.

After only one season at the Valley, Scott then moved to Kitchee at the start of the 2021/2022 season, and in the 2024/2025 season, Scott was contracted by the proud team of West Sumatra to play in the Indonesian League 1.

Scott is the type of player who can play in a number of positions, such as defensive midfielder, center back, right wing back, and right wing.

While defending Kitchee, Scott managed to win a series of trophies, namely one Hong Kong League champion, two Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield trophies, and one Hong Kong Cup trophy.

Even though he doesn't know much about the league system in Indonesia, Scott is very enthusiastic and interested in trying to play in this league.

Apart from Charlie Scott, who plays as a midfielder, several names of foreign players who also strengthen the nickname "Kabau Sirah" or Red Buffalo in the Indonesian League 1 are Tin Martic, a player from Croatia who plays at center back, and Jan Carlos Vargas, a player from the Panamanian national team who plays at center back.

Next, Cornelius Stewart from Vincent and the Grenadines is a striker who previously played for Abahani Limited Dhaka and was the top scorer in the Bangladesh League last season.

After that, followed by Ryohei Michibuchi from Japan in the wing position, Kim Mingyu from South Korea in the defender position, and Kenneth Ngwoke from Nigeria in the striker position.
