Fowey, United Kingdom - July 19, 2024

On July 19, the Fowey RNLI inshore lifeboat sprang into action following a distress call from the coastguard concerning a 16ft motor boat in trouble on the eastern side of Fowey Harbour. The vessel had broken down and was perilously drifting towards the rocky shore.

The incident was reported after a man aboard the stricken boat contacted a friend, who then alerted the coastguard. Promptly responding to the call, the Fowey volunteer crew launched their inshore lifeboat at 3:35 pm. Upon arrival, they discovered that a local boat was already assisting the distressed vessel. Despite this, the lifeboat continued to the scene under the advice of the coastguard, considering the challenging sea conditions.

Once alongside the motor boat, a crew member boarded to secure a tow line. Safely tethered, the lifeboat towed the vessel back to Fowey Harbour, where it was handed over to the Fowey Harbour Commissioners’ patrol boat.
