Underground gas pipeline leak ignited a fire erupting from sewers in China.

Footage shows slow flames burning from several sewer holes in the road, as though the gates to hell have opened up in the middle of the city.

The leak was reported on the morning of July 18 near the entrance of the old market in Huizhou, Guangdong province.

The escaping gas then ignited, terrifying locals and passersby who witnessed several fires erupting from several sewer openings in the street.

Rescuers arrived, and the gas company intervened by closing the pipeline valve and halting the gas leak. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the leakage was caused by accidental drilling through the gas pipeline during roadbed exploration activities.

The authorities continued to assess the area to ensure there were no further risks and to verify the integrity of nearby infrastructure.

A local official said: 'The prompt response by the fire rescue team and the gas company reduced the potential dangers associated with the gas leak, thus ensuring the safety of residents and passersby in the surrounding area.'
