STORYLINE:

The China-Europe freight train service has witnessed accelerated development in recent months.

On July 10, a train bound for Duisburg in Germany departed from Wuhan, China, marking the 10,000th train trip of the service this year.

This milestone was reached 19 days earlier than last year.

The trains had transported more than 1.08 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers of goods during the period, up 11 percent year on year, according to China State Railway Group.

At present, the China-Europe freight train service reaches 224 cities in 25 European countries and connects over 100 cities in 11 Asian countries, transporting more than 50,000 types of goods.

Its fast, safe, high-quality, and stable service has opened up broad international business opportunities.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): SAHEDOV BEGENCH, Turkmen businessman
"Through the China-Europe freight trains, we have not only saved time but also reduced costs. We transport our distinctive products from Turkmenistan to China, while simultaneously bringing Chinese electronics to our country for sale."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): BERND NOCHE, Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany
"It (China-Europe Railway Express) is a very interesting link and from the worldwide point of view, unique.
Now, when we see the railway connection, this is a unique transport because it is faster than the ship, but lower price than the plane. We have a lot of goods which are suitable to be transported here."

SOUNDBITE 3 (German): CHRIS FANTER, Head of Hamburg-Billwerder DUSS Freight Terminal, Germany
"These trains from China can sometimes be transferred to other regions in Europe, such as Spain, France, and Austria, on the same day. Since 2013, we have maintained this cooperation, and we are proud to receive these trains and hope to have the opportunity to further expand."

Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Beijing.
