Gaza Strip: Ceaseless Israeli evacuation orders, attacks leave "no safe place" for Gazans
Khan Yunis, Gaza Strip - August 09, 2024
The ceaseless Israeli evacuation orders and attacks have rendered the whole Gaza Strip inhabitable, forcing millions of Palestinians to flee time and again.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) ordered people to leave parts of the southern Gaza Strip, including central and eastern Khan Younis on Thursday, one day after issuing two separate directives for several districts in northern Gaza. The residents were ordered to move to the so-called "humanitarian zone" in western areas of the coastal enclave.
The IDF said that the evacuation was in order to carry out strong military operations against the local Palestinian armed groups.
A correspondent of China Central Television (CCTV) reached the eastern district of Khan Younis on Friday, where thousands of Palestinians carrying bags of belongings made their way through the rubble to the Al-Mawasi area west of the city.
These people, who had returned to their homes only a few days earlier, once again fled in fear of an unknown fate.
A report released by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on Friday indicated that up to 1.9 million people, or 90 percent of the population, across the Gaza Strip had been internally displaced.
Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the UNRWA, said on July 29 on social media that only 14 percent of areas in Gaza were not under Israel's evacuation orders that created havoc and panic and impacted almost everyone in the enclave.
