In a collaborative effort with local and state agencies, members of the Alaska Organized Militia, including personnel from the Alaska National Guard, Alaska Naval Militia, and Alaska State Defense Force, have embarked on a crucial mission to clear disaster debris in the aftermath of a glacial outburst flood in the Mendenhall Valley.

Since August 10, 2024, Joint Task Force-Juneau has been actively involved in clearing over 2,000 cubic yards of debris, comprising household waste, furniture, and construction materials. This concerted effort represents the largest domestic disaster response undertaken by the Alaska Organized Militia since their deployment during the Typhoon Merbok response across Western Alaska in 2022.

The operation underscores the effective coordination between military units, local authorities, and tribal emergency operations, demonstrating their combined commitment to restoring normalcy and safety in the affected areas.
