Tidal bore crashes into shore caused by approaching typhoon
This is the unsettling moment a tidal bore drenches a crowd on the banks of the Qiantang River in China.
Footage captured by resident Mr Qian shows the unusually massive wave at the Old Salt Warehouse in Chang'an, Haining, Jiaxing, Zhejiang, on July 25.
The powerful waves, influenced by Typhoon Gaemi, soaked the spectators who had gathered to watch.
A tidal bore is a tidal phenomenon in which a wave flows upstream in some rivers as high tide approaches. The Qiantang River tidal bore is famous for its size, with waves that can reach up to 30 feet in height.
