Unauthorized climbers risk lives during Mount Dukono eruption in Indonesia
On August 17, 2024, @anak_esa shared a video captured by a government-operated drone showing Mount Dukono erupting in North Halmahera, Indonesia. The footage reveals unauthorized climbers navigating dangerous conditions on the volcano's slopes amidst volcanic ash and lava. Despite warnings to stay within a 3 km radius of the erupting peak, the climbers ventured into the hazardous area. The situation was particularly perilous as Mount Dukono is currently at LEVEL II (ALERT). Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the Head of the PGA Dukono Post confirmed that the climbers managed to escape the dangerous conditions.
