Gaza Strip: Gaza's skin care doctor describes dire situation amid supply shortage, displacement
Khan Younis, Gaza Strip - Recent
Sanaa Al-Kabariti, a skin and hair care expert in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, has been working under dire conditions with minimal supplies and dealing with a spike in patients due to Israeli bombardment and repeated displacement, since the latest round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in October last year.
The relentless conflict in Gaza has uprooted countless lives and property, including that of Dr. Al-Kabariti. Forced to flee as Israeli tanks invaded, she lost everything when her house was bombed.
Originally located in one of the busiest areas in the city, her clinic was furnished with modern equipment imported from abroad. But months of violence and displacement have left her barely the equipment and supplies to treat patients.
As the crossings are currently closed and medicines are not being brought in, Al-Kabariti said she has found out that there are many cases complaining of diseases and skin problems that have worsened due to displacement and walking long distances under the scorching summer sunlight.
She stressed that there is an urgent need to deal with the increasing problems and provide treatment for these people in particular after their suffering amid displacement and the lack of basic necessities of life such as food and drinking water.
Despite all the challenges, Al-Kabariti said she's trying her best to improve the situation through dogged perseverance.

"Now, after nine or ten months of war and displacement, I am forced to deal with cases inside a medical tent that barely has the minimum requirements to deal with patients. But despite that I try hard to provide some materials close to the materials we used, some materials we extracted from under the rubble of my clinic that was destroyed, in an attempt to compensate for the severe shortage in everything. We are trying to adapt and find solutions to some problems, especially with the absence of equipment and necessary materials to provide treatment.";

10. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Sanaa Al-Kabariti, skin and hair care expert (starting with shot 9/ending with shot 11):
"Now people are forced to walk very long distances under the scorching sun. As you know, we are here in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis and previously the Rafah areas, which are [semi-]desert areas. At this stage, they live in tents, which are not qualified to block the heat and block the sun from the skin. This has resulted in many problems for people including skin allergies, eczema, and some skin problems have developed to more difficult stages, not to mention water pollution, severe overcrowding, congestion, and the lack of necessary medicines.There is a kind of perseverance and resilience that I refuse to adapt to the current situation and in this way, I want to be better even though they (Israeli forces) destroyed everything.";
