STORYLINE:

At the opening ceremony of the 14th China Potato Expo on Friday, the International Potato Center for Asia-Pacific (CCCAP) designated the Dingxi Potato Research Institute in Dingxi, northwest China's Gansu Province, as the CIP-China Center for Asia Pacific Gansu Workstation.

Dingxi is one of China's main potato-producing areas, and it is known as the "hometown of potatoes in China."

Leveraging its unique climate and geographic conditions, Dingxi has developed the potato industry into a cornerstone of its economic strength.

Professionals attending the expo praised Dingxi's remarkable achievements in the potato industry over the years.

"I've been coming to China for many years. And Gansu was always one of the poorest provinces of China, because of the climate, the drought conditions, and little rainfall, cold winters. But what you have done here in the last 20, 30 years is amazing. It's truly amazing how you have with research and good seed potato production and now the processing industry."
