Technology smartises waste recycling in China

(Voice_over)

Chinese recycling companies are using smart tech to make recycling things like construction materials or textile waste, more convenient and accessible.

In Beijing, home renovations can create lots of construction debris. But now, with a new smartphone platform, clients simply place a pick-up order, and the recycling company does the rest.

Discarded concrete chunks are collected and delivered to nearby disposal centers, where they're converted into reuseable building materials.

Li Shuo, Vice manager, BCEG Resources Recycling Co., Ltd.:

"We have constructed seven new disposal centers that have increased production capacity by 4 million tons, achieving a recycling rate of over 95 percent."

Also in Beijing, a streamlined recycling process is in place for unwanted clothing and textiles.

China is the world's largest producer and consumer of textiles and garments and estimates that carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced by approximately 1,800 tons by recycling roughly 1,000 tons of discarded textiles.
