Tourists upset locals with over-the-top PDA in tuktuk
Four tourists upset locals with this over-the-top PDA in the back of a tuk-tuk.
The two couples were riding in the back of the vehicle while holding bottles of beer in the nightlife district of Phuket, Thailand, on September 17.
One woman was seen straddling her partner while grinding provocatively as he put his hands inside her shirt. The second pair then began making out.
A lemon-lipped local who saw the tourists from a motorcycle behind said: ‘They disrespected the culture and laws. It was too much. They should be sensitive with their actions in places they visit.'
Incidents of foreigners engaging in intimate behaviour in public have become frequent in Phuket since the country began a push to pull in more holidaymakers.
On February 24, two foreigners were caught having public sex on Patong Beach after midnight. While in April, another couple was spotted having sex on a paddle board off Phuket island.
On April 16, a foreign couple was again seen having sex on Patong Beach while in July, three people were caught romping in the sand on Patong Beach.
Apart from these incidents, on June 21, a foreigner was caught urinating in a tuk-tuk taxi stuck in a traffic jam in the Patong area.
Under Section 388 of Thailand's Criminal Code, 'any person who performs such a disgraceful act in public by undressing himself, exhibiting his undressed person or committing any other act of obscenity shall be liable to a fine not exceeding 500 baht (11.41 GBP)'.
Thailand is predominantly Buddhist, with over 90 per cent of the population practising Theravada Buddhism. The country is primarily conservative regarding religious and royal respect, particularly in rural areas, but urban centres like Bangkok show a more liberal attitude.
