"China is transforming from a consumer market into a center of knowledge and innovation," said Stefan Hartung, chairman of Robert Bosch GmbH.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): STEFAN HARTUNG, Chairman of Robert Bosch GmbH
"We have been in China starting as a pure manufacturing company pretty much. We were manufacturing for the world with exports and for China. Meanwhile, a lot in the automotive arena, we still produce and still serve the Chinese market with maximum scale as necessary. But there is added now the technology work. So we have now added technology centers, engineering centers, software centers. And a lot is fueled by this great development of engineering science and also universities in China because the talent is coming. And when the talent is there, our work can be continued."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): STEFAN HARTUNG, Chairman of Robert Bosch GmbH
"China is a very important market also for us. We can do great work in China with our people. And you see how it's investing. So just in the next month, we will open up a new factory which is invested in the last month. So China is very fast in realizing investments and it needs all the capacity. That's why we do it - because it's very important that the Chinese companies, our customers who want to expand their production, that we can serve them. And therefore, these investments are most important and we will continue to have these investments in place as the market also is raising demand."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): STEFAN HARTUNG, Chairman of Robert Bosch GmbH
"Very important is that we keep in touch and talk, right, that we exchange people, because people normally don't know so much about how life is in China and how life as an engineer is in Germany, for example. So we have to exchange engineers and technology. Also, we have now much more technological work in China. So meanwhile, of the 58,000 Bosch people in China, 10,000 are engineers and developers and physicists and mathematicians. So that has increased dramatically. That shows the trends of the companies also to more technology-heavy work in China. But that is also based on a strong interaction. And that's good. That's good for Germany, good for Europe and good for China."
