Rampaging German tourist attacks pizza shop in Thailand
A rampaging German tourist was arrested over a violent outburst at a pizza restaurant in Thailand.
The holidaymaker, who was not named by police, arrived at Da Luka Pizza and Pasta just as Thai owner Nga and her foreign husband were preparing to close the shop in Phuket on September 27.
The couple accommodated the initially polite customer, but he reportedly went berserk when they offered to take him to the airport after his meal.
CCTV footage shows the tourist kicking plant boxes and a traffic cone in the restaurant patio. He also broke both side mirrors on the husband's car before grabbing the lanky expat in a headlock.
Nga later emerged from their home wielding what appeared to be a broken bottle to threaten the German man, who then retreated into a convenience store across the street.
Sakhu District Police later arrived to arrest the suspect. A police spokesman said: 'The suspect has already caught and sent to court. The immigration bureau is working on deporting him back to his country. He acted out of being drunk, but we're unsure what he was drunk on.'
Nga said the incident forced her to temporarily close the damaged shop.
She said: 'The German man arrived and ordered a pizza in advance. We suggested that he return later so we could prepare a fresh pizza for him.
'About half an hour later, he returned dressed in women's clothes and carrying a bag. He ordered a pizza, a bottle of beer, a shot of liquor, and soda water.
'He stayed for a long time and refused to leave, even when we told him that we needed to put our child to bed. He said he did not have any accommodation, so my husband volunteered to take him to the airport.
'He and my husband kept talking until around 2am, but a while later, I heard a crashing sound. I went downstairs and heard my husband telling me to call the police because the German had attacked him and damaged our car.'
She claimed she called the emergency hotlines but failed to get help from the 'rude operators', prompting her to call their restaurant employee who went to the police station for help.
Nga's foreign husband claimed he felt he was treated unfairly by the cops.
He said: 'It took a really long time for the police to arrive. I felt sorry that I called them to disturb them. Even when they came, they told me to keep quiet.
'I was the one who had a problem, but they were asking the crazy man if he was okay. Nobody asked us anything, they just told us to keep quiet.
'I am an expat and he is a tourist. Obviously, it's different. Expats have to behave according to the rules, but tourists can be violent. I had a feeling that I'm not appreciated even though I have a Thai family.
'I was thinking how lucky we are that we are alive because it was crazy. But you feel that nobody takes care of you. They called an ambulance for him. They didn't ask me if I needed an ambulance. You start thinking, what is going on? So I regret that I even called, but I needed to do something.'
