Hardline sheriff makes boy, 11, do perp walk for boasting about his weapons cache
A hardline sheriff made an 11-year-old boy do perp walk as he was arrested for allegedly bragging about his weapons cache and making a list of targets.
Schoolboy Carlo Kingston Dorelli allegedly showed a video of his armoury, including a stockpile of airsoft guns, knives, and swords, to his classmates before threatening violence at Silver Sands Middle School in Port Orange, Florida.
FortifyFL, a website designed to report suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies, received a tip before officers arrested him.
Footage shows a Volusia County Sheriff officer escorting Carlo into the jailhouse with his wrists on handcuff on October 2. He was arrested from home, where he was reportedly sleeping while his mum answered the door.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood said: ‘He had written a list of names and targets. He says it was all a joke.'
Officers also seized his weapons, and the pre-teen was charged with a felony for threatening a mass shooting.
Sheriff Mike added the state received false tips about school shootings, costing the department 20,000 USD and warned to hold any child accountable for prank threats.
He said: 'Every time we make an arrest, your kid's photo is going to be put out there. We're gonna come and get you. We're going to put you out for public embarrassment.'
Last month, high school boy Colt Gray, 14, was charged with four counts of murder for shooting four people dead at Apalachee High School in Georgia.
In Foley, Alabama, two teenagers were arrested when a teacher overheard them discussing possession of weapons and prompting a school lockdown.
The US has some of the highest rates of civilian gun ownership in the world, with relatively easy access to firearms, including assault-style weapons that can cause mass casualties quickly. This makes it easier for individuals to carry out shootings compared to countries with stricter gun control laws.
