Reckless Mercedes driver causes dramatic SUV rollover on busy highway in China
On September 19, a traffic accident occurred on the Changsha section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway involving an SUV rollover.
After an investigation by the Changsha Highway Traffic Police, it was confirmed that the accident was caused by another vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz, that illegally changed lanes while attempting to overtake. The accident resulted in damage to three vehicles: the "Tank 300" SUV and a light delivery truck, among others.
Dashcam footage shows that at the time of the accident, the SUV was driving normally in the passing lane when a black Mercedes-Benz in the right lane suddenly accelerated and forced its way into the SUV's lane. The SUV was squeezed into the central barrier, lost control, collided with the truck behind it, and then flipped over. Fortunately, the SUV driver was the only occupant and had their seatbelt fastened, suffering only minor neck injuries.
Upon questioning, the Mercedes driver, Tan, was carrying five family members and driving at approximately 120 km/h in the travel lane. When they saw a truck ahead, instead of slowing down to avoid it, Tan changed lanes to the left, believing there was enough space to overtake, which led to the accident.
The police determined that Tan was fully responsible for the accident and imposed the appropriate penalties.
