India's factory activity growth witnessed a contraction of 0.1 percent in August, government data showed Friday in the index of industrial production (IIP).
The IIP growth rate for July stood at 4.7 percent, according to the federal Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. August growth rates of the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors were (-)4.3 percent, 1.0 percent and (-)3.7 percent.
The decline in the growth of the mining sector was likely due to heavy August rainfall, the ministry noted.
Within the manufacturing sector, the top three positive contributors in August were the manufacturing of basic metals (3.0 percent), electrical equipment (17.7 percent) and chemical products (2.7 percent).
