An animal lover released hundreds of colourful koi fish into a pond in his backyard.

Wally Casuga built the concrete pools in his property to breed tilapia but saved a cage for his pet carp in Oriental Mindoro, the Philippines.

Footage shows the enthusiast putting plastic bags containing fish into the man-made pond.

He then carefully released them individually so they could swim around their bigger home.

Wally said: 'It was originally intended for tilapia breeding, but I also put koi there. Watching them relaxes me.'

In some Asian countries, especially Japan, koi fish symbolises luck, prosperity, and perseverance. Breeding koi is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, where they are often kept in gardens as a sign of good fortune and harmony.
