A devastating landslide killed at least 15 people in the remote mountains of Papua in Indonesia.

Flash floods, accompanied by a rockslide, struck Nduga Regency on Saturday, sweeping away residents as they crossed the Papan River.

The victims were reportedly aged between eight and 17.

Local media said one body had been recovered, while authorities continued searching for the others.

Emergency responders are also looking for eight children who were swept away on the same day in a similar incident in a nearby village.

Footage shows locals gathered in an open area, praying together for the safe recovery of their families.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said: 'Officers, assisted by residents, continue to conduct manual searches. The large amount of floodwater and landslide debris makes it difficult to find missing victims. Material losses due to this incident are still being further assessed.'
