Zookeepers in ghost costumes feed animals Halloween treats in Thailand
Zookeepers dressed as ghosts to feed Halloween treats to animals in Thailand.
The caretakers cosplayed characters from the Thai horror movie 'Death Whisperer' and brought pumpkins to enclosures wearing scary makeup, with dark eyes, white eyes, and bloodied sides of mouth around Khon Kaen Zoo on October 30.
Footage shows the zoo workers giving vegetables to a hippopotamus mum and her baby, called Moo Duang. They enjoyed it with carrots and other green leafy vegetables mixed like salad in a bucket.
They were also given watermelons to share, and some visitors took selfies with them holding the carved pumpkins.
Deers were also given some snacks, crowding around the staff members.
The capybara family enclosure was also given grass to munch on and treats for four lion cubs.
Zoo director Tipawadee Kittikoon said Halloween is part of Western culture but could be fun for Thai people.
She said: 'It is fun to dress in ghost costumes, carve pumpkins, decorate with lamps and lanterns, or participate in trick-or-treating, where children knock on doors asking for snacks or candies. So we did it for the animals, but we were the ones bringing them treats.'
Death Whisperer is a Thai horror movie about a family haunted by supernatural forces after one member falls mysteriously ill.
Halloween is not a traditional Thai holiday, but its popularity has grown in recent years, particularly in urban areas and among younger generations keen to participate in colourful Western rituals.
