STORYLINE:
Panax notoginseng, also known as Chinese ginseng or sanqi, is a perennial herb used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.
The plant has fostered a thriving industry that drives economic development in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, China's Yunnan Province.
The cultivation of Panax notoginseng here carries a rich historical legacy.
In recent years, local companies have upgraded the herb industry by introducing advanced production and processing equipment and innovative planting techniques.

"This is our under-forest organic cultivation base for Panax notoginseng. We manage the entire process in accordance with organic standards, prohibiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Instead, we employ physical and ecological control methods to enhance the quality of our Panax notoginseng.
This batch has been cultivated over a 3-year growth period and will be harvested in December. After three years of scientific and organic management, this batch is of high quality."
Wenshan also built the country's only Panax notoginseng industrial park, nurturing a comprehensive industry chain, integrating research, cultivation, processing, and marketing of the medicinal herb.
In the first nine months of 2024, the biopharmaceutical industry centered around Panax notoginseng in Wenshan achieved a total output value of 30.3 billion yuan (about 4.26 billion USD).
