This is the horrifying moment a pony tried to outrun an oncoming train before being struck and flung to the side.

The equine was eating grass on the fields beside a railroad when it ran too close to the approaching locomotive in Lampang, Thailand on November 12.

Footage shows the fast farm animal keeping up with the vehicle's speed before being clipped.

It was dragged forward and flipped at least three times before being hurled 5ft (2m) away.

A local said: 'I was trying to take a video of the scenery with the train when I realised that the pony was hurt. It happened so fast.'

The pony lay on the grass as it was unable to stand from its injury.

The train driver also stopped to check on the animal that survived its injuries before its owner was called.
