An oncoming train nearly crashed into a bungling driver who ignored a level-crossing warning.

Dashcam footage shows the sedan crossing the railroad despite the fast-approaching locomotive in Ratchaburi province, Thailand on May 19.

Driver Oil Chanaporn who was on the opposite side, quickly backed away to give the other motorist space.

No one was hurt in the incident and the vehicle was unscathed despite being seconds away from a collision.

Oil said: ‘It was frightening. I wish the signs were bigger, and the drivers will learn to follow them.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
