Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is a mega rail project being built by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).
It just made its 36th tunnel breakthrough in Selangor state last month, marking a milestone in the railway's construction.
By linking Malaysia's less-developed east coast region to the economic heartland on the west coast, ECRL is expected to greatly enhance connectivity and bring more balanced growth to the Southeast Asian country.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): ANTHONY LOKE SIEW FOOK, Malaysia's Transport Minister
"For Malaysia, for sure, we see a lot of projects going on under the Belt and Road cooperation. And there is the ECRL, one of the biggest projects, which is still under construction and will be completed in a few years. So over the past 10 years, the Belt and Road cooperation has definitely strengthened the relationship between Malaysia and China."
