Boy, 10, rescued from 30ft deep well in Thailand
A ten-year-old boy who plunged into a well and his uncle who tried to save him were rescued in Thailand.
Chakrit Mankhit was playing in front of his family's house when he slipped into the 23ft (7 metres) deep hole in the ground in Phuket on November 15 afternoon.
The youngster shouted for help, and his 30-year-old relative heard him and climbed down to help him.
However, they were both stuck before rescuers arrived and built a pulley over the well to lift them out.
CCTV footage shows Chakrit falling into the pit. A team of rescuers quickly built the pulley system over the well, pumped water out, before a rope was lowered which freed the two family members.
The boy's father Nattawut said: 'Chakrit is an autistic boy and likes to walk around the house. It is currently being converted into a shop and he did not notice the well.'
Nattawut added that there used to be a cover, but it was shattered.
The rescue operation faced challenges due to the well's narrow width of only 3 ft (1 metre). However, with the help of the tools, both were extracted safely.
Chakrit had three stitches for his head wound and was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. His uncle was also safe.
