A missing pet kitten that tried to crawl through a hole in a metal gear cover and became stuck was rescued.

The black feline, named Roo Gear, was nowhere to be found when its owner, Rujiporn Rueangsub, 31, called it for dinner in Chachoengsao, Thailand.

The kitten was found the next day at a junkyard, its head caught in a piece of scrap metal.

Footage shows the hapless tuxedo cat trapped in the cover while volunteers from the Chachoengsao Charity Rescue Foundation checked on it on October 22.

The team first used a disc grinder to cut parts of the metal while another rescuer poured water on it to prevent overheating.

Rujiporn said: 'I have six cats. The mother gave birth to a litter of five. When I was feeding them, I noticed there were only four siblings.'

The grinder worked in slowly, cutting through the material, but it generated too much heat, which hurt Roo Gear.

They then decided to use a hydraulic spreader that had recently been purchased by the foundation.

Within seconds, the power tool split the gear cover in half, freeing Roo Gear.

The kitten was returned to Rujiporn unharmed.
