This Olive Ridley was one of two sea turtles found entangled in a huge ghost net (abandoned fishing net) its back flipper was severely entangled in the fishing twine and the turtle kept trying to escape by swimming forward. By doing this the net was cutting deeper into the back flipper. Luckily the turtle was eventually released and swam away quickly into the deep.

Every year it is estimated that around 640, 000 tons of ghost gear are lost globally. Ghost gear is responsible for killing thousands of animals each year and many go unnoticed for many months, the lucky ones get found but many do not.
