This is the touching moment a doting daughter cared for her paralysed father with a daily exercise routine.

The dedicated young girl helped her bedridden father, who has a severe spinal injury, train his muscles in Shaanxi, China, on September 2.

Footage shows the child carefully lifting her father's upper body and assisting him in gripping a rope to perform light exercises in bed.

He can be seen doing assisted sit-ups while his daughter gently massages his legs and feet to improve blood circulation in the lower part of his body.

Patients with acute spinal cord injuries (SCIs) have significantly increased mortality in the first year following injury, and those with a complete SCI have less than a 5 per cent chance of recovery.

Permanent and continuous physical therapy, hydrotherapy when feasible, timely detection and correction of malnutrition, and intermittent catheterisation for patients with urinary retention are crucial aspects of managing severe spinal injuries.
