SOUNDBITE (English): CAVINCE ADHERE, Nairobi-based international relations expert
"If you look at the most admirable global narratives about China is its development track record. China lifted over 800 million people out of poverty and this has become a large source of inspiration for (other) developing countries.
The learning points in terms of governance, I think Chinese development has taught us that it's very good to have very clear long-term plans in terms of how to proceed with the idea of development. There is also an aspect of not leaving anybody behind. The whole of society approach to development in China is something that if you talk about poverty alleviation, you're not talking about poverty alleviation in towns and cities, but you're also talking about poverty alleviation in the villages. Everybody, respective of their geographical positioning in a country, deserves development and that is something that is, in my view, very important for African countries to learn in their efforts to modernize, in their efforts to master comprehensive development."
