Bluetooth speaker suddenly explodes and bursts into flames in shop
A faulty Bluetooth speaker exploded and burst into flames while filling a shop with thick smoke.
The electronic device from China was plugged into a television when it blasted on a shelf at a convenience store in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 24.
Footage shows the explosion followed by white fumes that startled the owner's wife, who walked away before her husband came to check.
However, only seconds later, when he unplugged it from the TV, it erupted into a fire.
The wife grabbed a cloth and used it to put out the blaze with the help of her husband.
Shop owner Keng said: 'It was new. We ordered it online from China. We had only been using it for three days. I do not know why it exploded but I think it was due to the batteries. My mother and father were the only ones there when it happened.'
No one was hurt but the shelves and some of the items displayed beside it were damaged.
Keng added: 'I am just thankful that my parents were safe and that the fire did not spread to destroy our store.'
Bluetooth speakers are wireless audio devices that connect to smartphones, tablets, or other devices to play music or audio. They rely on Bluetooth technology for short-range communication and are powered by rechargeable batteries.
Most Bluetooth speakers use lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat, swell, or explode if overcharged or exposed to excessive heat among other factors.
China is the world's largest manufacturer of Bluetooth speakers and portable Bluetooth speakers but the quality of some of the devices is questionable.
