This is the heroic moment officers used a helicopter to rescue stranded residents during severe flooding in Sri Lanka.

Footage shows a Bell 212 aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force lowering team members into a hut to help evacuate a distressed local in Ampara on November 17.

Both the rescuer and the survivor were airlifted to Batticaloa base, providing temporary shelter for affected families.

The Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre confirmed 12 deaths due to weather-related incidents, with two missing and 17 injured.

Authorities issued red alerts in several districts as evacuations continued amid bad weather.
