A gas cylinder explosion sparked a fire at an apartment block in Mumbai.

Footage shows smoke billowing from the building, with a significant blast heard coming from it.

Authorities said the blaze broke out around noon at the 22-storey building in Dongri on Wednesday, November 27, injuring three residents and a firewoman.

Nine fire engines, three fire tankers, nine jumbo tankers, one turntable ladder, and one ambulance were deployed at the scene.

Deputy Fire Officer S D Sawant said: 'The fire originated from a cylinder blast in a 15th-floor flat where household work was underway.

'The explosion's splinters ignited fires in a 16th-floor flat and another on the 10th floor.

'Additionally, an air conditioner compressor caught fire and exploded, intensifying the blaze.'

Narrow lanes and parked bikes made it difficult for pedestrians to access the fire scene. Firefighters had to navigate a maze of cables to reach the blaze, hindering the crane's ability to reach the fire's source.

By 3:30 pm, the fire was brought under control, and there were no reported casualties.

Residents from the affected floors were evacuated to the terrace for safety.
