A pair of orphaned cougar cubs arrived at Oregon Zoo.

A Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife staff member rescued the four-month-old male and female wildcats on December 6.

The rescuer decided to take in the animals, both weighing around 20 lbs (9 kg), as it is believed they would not survive in the wild without their mother.

The pair is currently being cared for at the zoo's veterinary medical centre and will be moved to the Great Northwest cougar habitat, where they will live and continue to receive treatment.

Jen Osburn Eliot, who oversees the zoo's Great Northwest area, said: 'We're so happy we can provide a home for these cubs. We wish they could've grown up with their mom, but we'll be doing everything we can for them.'
