Old woman with walking cane tumbles on escalator and drags granddaughter along
This is the shocking moment an elderly woman with a walking cane tumbles on an escalator, dragging her granddaughter along.
Dramatic footage shows the pensioner holding the child with one hand and the cane with the other at a shopping centre in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on December 15.
As the woman tries to grab the handrail and raise her cane, she loses her balance and falls backwards.
Still holding the youngster by the hand, she drags the girl along as both stumble while the moving staircase carries them upwards.
The young girl eventually manages to free herself and is carried to the top of the electric stairway while her grandmother continues to roll on the steps.
The woman struggles in agony, repeatedly rolling downwards, but the moving walkway continues to carry her upwards.
It is only when other women notice her plight and press the emergency stop button that help arrives and the woman is assisted.
Shopping centre staff later confirmed that the elderly was treated in hospital and is in stable condition, while the child was unharmed.
