Superstitious locals prepared a buffet for ghosts in a creepy ritual in Thailand.

Footage shows monks and villagers praying over the bountiful banquet on the roadside near the Wat Yang Yong temple in Phayao province on December 15. The spread of sweets, grilled fish, fruits, and liquor was prepared to help the departed pass on.

The yearly feast was held at a junction believed to be built on an ancient war-torn city. However, it is known for frequent and fatal traffic accidents.

To dispel the bad luck said to be pervading the intersection, monks offered food and drinks to appease the restless spirits.

Buddhist monk Phra Atikarn Ekkachai Silasangwaro, the abbot of Wat Pa Daed, said he led the ritual in order to remember the deceased.

He said: 'This is a way of doing good deeds so the spirits and ghosts can move on.

'It also helps build morale for the people living near the Pratu Chai intersection, as well as drivers passing through here.'
