Mexico: The Mexican peso shows a downward trend at the end of this year 2024
Mexico City, Mexico - December 19, 2024 According to an analysis based on data from Banxico, Citi Mexico and IMEF, the Mexican currency, which in the first half of the year had reached historic levels of strength against the dollar, closed the year with a significant depreciation. In the first months of 2024, the Mexican peso managed to consolidate itself as one of the most appreciated currencies globally, breaking the barrier of $17 pesos per US dollar. This phenomenon, popularly known as the “super peso,” was driven by factors such as internal economic stability and a favorable environment in international markets. However, the outlook changed dramatically in the second half of the year. According to the data collected, after the presidential election in Mexico, the currency began to lose ground against the dollar, exceeding $20 pesos per greenback by the end of 2024.
