STORYLINE:

The 10th Harissa Festival was held in the city of Nabeul in northeastern Tunisia from Jan. 3 to 5.

Harissa, considered a national delicacy in Tunisia, is particularly renowned in Nabeul due to the region's abundant red peppers, a key ingredient in its preparation.

In 2022, UNESCO added "Harissa, knowledge, skills and culinary and social practices" to its list of intangible cultural heritage.

Harissa is traditionally made by removing the stems and seeds from dried red peppers, grinding them into a paste with olive oil and garlic. Regional producers often add vegetables and spices to create unique variations.

According to the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, the country cultivates 96 varieties of peppers across 16,000 hectares of land.
