US, Los Angeles: Santa Clarita Embattled Chiquita Canyon Landfill to End Waste Operations January 1st
Los Angeles, United States - December 31, 2024 12/31/2024 01:45 pm (GMT-0800) SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Embattled Chiquita Canyon Landfill announced it will cease operations effective tomorrow, January 1, according to a letter from its district manager. The landfill has been at the center of a yearslong battle with locals over significant health issues stemming from a fire burning underground for years in what the company calls an Elevated Temperature Landfill (ETLF) event. Chiquita Canyon, LLC District Manager Steve Cassulo said in a letter to the Castaic Community Advisory Committee that the company sees no economic viability to operating the location.
