A grandmother played in goal for a women's football match in Thailand.

The sprightly pensioner Thurian Sukdee, 82, or Grandmother Rian to family and friends, was placed between the sticks for her village team at a competition in Surin province on December 31.

Footage shows Thurian staying alert and focused as she kicked the ball out to her defenders - some 60 years her junior - during the annual sports competition in their district.

She wore a matching light blue jersey like her teammates and a long skirt during the game.

Proud neighbour Siriphon Sirianuson said: 'We called this under 100s football.'

She joked: 'Many clubs have called to inquire about the grandmother, but unfortunately, she doesn't know how to answer the phone. Otherwise, she could replace Onana at Man United.'

While the grandmother's team lost with a final score of 0-2, Siriphon proved her fitness to her neighbours and became a hit when the video emerged online.

Siriphon added: 'Grandmother Rian was a superstar during the match. She did her best to win.'
